Food and eating hygiene is an important part of improving your digestion!
When I asked a patient yesterday if she considered herself a fast eater she replied that she consumes her food as if there was a lion behind her. Let’s be honest, a lot of us do this!
These are the tips I give to everyone, especially those who suffer with indigestion, reflux, bloating, discomfort after eating or feeling full all the time:
🥦 Chew your food slowly, count up to 20 chews before swallowing to get an idea of how slow you should be going.
🥦 Try not to wash your food down with water, if it’s not going down perhaps you’ve not chewed it properly or taken too big a bite.
🥦 Don’t load up your fork until you’ve finished swallowing your lash mouthful.
🥦 Avoid eating when stressed or on the go, sit down in a calm environment so your nervous system allows digestion to occur.
🥦 Stop when you start feeling satisfied, which is a lot easier to identify when you eat slowly.
🥦 Take smaller bites so you can chew everything in your mouth properly before swallowing.
🥦 Make eating a sensual experience, really smell and appreciate the colour, texture and taste of your food.
