Make drinking water FUN

One thing that nearly every patient I see has in common is that they don't drink enough water. We need to be consuming a minimum of 2 litres every day ladies and for you fellas it's 2.5 litres, adding an extra 0.5-1 litre if you are exercising or spending time outdoors in the sun.

That's around 8 regular sized glasses. It's really not that much but one things I hear a lot is "it's boring" or "I just don't really like water". OK fair enough, it's not very flavoursome but our bodies really need it.

If you want nice juicy cells, if you want clear skin, if you want a well-running digestive system - you need to drink enough water!

In a large jug in the fridge try adding:

  • Sliced cucumber

  • Sliced oranges, lemons and/or limes

  • Chopped strawberries and mint

  • Fresh lemongrass

  • Sliced ginger and lemon

  • Cinnamon and orange

Or add berries or mint into your ice tray before topping with water and freezing.

You could also try:

  • Setting reminders in your phone or on your laptop to go off every day at certain times of the day to remind you to take a sip break.

  • Leaving a glass of water by your bed to down first thing in the morning to remedy overnight dehydration.

  • Filling up 2 litres worth of cups or drink bottles at the start of the day and make sure you finish them before you go to bed.

  • Herbal tea! This technically counts as water if it is not caffeinated (as that dehydrates us more).
